Are the Steelers going to spend big money at the quarterback position? Poni said you need a ‘code talker’ from World War II to breakdown what Art Rooney says sometimes. What price will be paid at QB? Poni said he’d rather spend money on QB again, knowing that Russell Wilson and Justin Fields aren’t the answer, and build up your roster for the next few years. Poni still wants the team to draft a QB, just not in the 1st round. Based on the track record of the AFC – 4 QBs have played in every AFC title game since 2003 – you have to take a big swing at QB when the time is right. It’s hard to justify overpaying for Wilson or Fields for what they are. It doesn’t sound like Art Rooney has any interest in trading TJ Watt. Why does it matter that a player wants to play here forever? The front office should be doing their due diligence. We took calls on Steelers ownership. Mike Florio from Pro Football Talk joined the show. Mike said it could be a negotiating ploy that Art Rooney openly expressed interest in having one of the two QBs back next season, but said only Justin Fields makes sense. Mike thinks Fields at least has a chance to evolve into a good player, but Wilson’s best days are behind them. Mike talked about how much the Steelers love being the team that talks about their stability when it comes to head coaches. Is it a problem that the coaching staff is so small? Mike got into the business side of NFL teams.
